Mirzoyan: ‘These negotiations give me cautious optimism’ on talks

During a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan addressed discussions regarding a peace treaty and the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan. He stated, ‘These negotiations give me cautious optimism; however, this is a very subjective assertion, at least with the caveat that the second side must still give its consent for any agreement to be finalized and to become mutual understanding.’

Mirzoyan emphasized that more detailed discussions aimed at mutual understanding have taken place in Washington, Brussels, and Moscow, even around the most significant issues.

It is noted that on May 1, a bilateral meeting was held in Arlington, USA, between Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. On the same day, a trilateral meeting took place in Washington among Ararat Mirzoyan, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

On May 14, a meeting was held in Brussels among Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Charles Michel, President of the European Council. Following the trilateral meeting, Charles Michel announced that the next step would be the delimitation based on the Almaty Declaration, which implies recognition of Armenia’s territorial integrity within the framework of 29.8 thousand square kilometers and Azerbaijan’s within 86.6 thousand square kilometers.
