Transactions with Russia Can Occur Without SWIFT, Says UN
The UN believes that transactions with Russia's Rosselkhozbank can be conducted without the SWIFT payment system. This was stated by the official spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, during a press briefing on Monday, commenting on the EU's refusal to reconnect Russian banks to SWIFT, which is necessary for servicing the 'Russian part' of the grain deal.
According to Dujarric, he did not see any violations of agreements on the part of the EU in this situation. The advantages of SWIFT include the active use of computers, encryption, identification, standardization of messages, and their automated processing, yet Russia remains deprived of these capabilities.
“It is clear that it would be easier within the framework of SWIFT, but we will continue to cooperate with all our interlocutors, including the EU, the UK, the USA, Russia, and others to ensure supplies,” said the representative of the UN Secretary-General.
