Americans Say Biden Lacks Mental Sharpness and Physical Health

More than 6 out of 10 Americans say that President Joe Biden lacks the mental sharpness or physical health necessary to effectively serve as president, according to a survey conducted by Washington Post-ABC News.

Approximately 7 out of 10 independent voters believe that Biden does not possess the mental acuity and physical health required for effective presidential duties. This view is echoed by every fifth Democrat and a substantial majority (94%) of Republicans.

Although Biden, at 80 years old, and former President Donald Trump, at 76, are close in age, the survey reveals that Americans hold markedly different perspectives on their physical and mental capacities. About one-third of Americans (32%) believe that Biden has sufficient mental sharpness to work effectively in the White House, while 54% say the same about Trump. One-third (33%) state that Biden has good enough physical health for the job, compared to 64% who affirm the same for Trump.

Overall, more than 4 out of 10 Americans (43%) believe that both Biden and Trump are too old to serve another presidential term. Additionally, 26% say that only Biden is too old, while 1% think that only Trump is too old.

A previous survey by Gallup had shown that Biden’s approval rating as President of the United States had reached a record low. Currently, this rating has fallen to a historic 37%, down from 38% in July 2022.
