‘Nemesis’ was not terror, but a nationwide revenge: Kamo Areyan
108 years ago on this day, an entire country was in blood. Three years later, there was a state plan that aimed to wipe us off the face of the earth and leave us without a land or geographical homeland. Kamo Areyan, an advisor to the Mayor of Yerevan, stated this during the opening ceremony of the ‘Nemesis’ monument.
According to him, the Ottoman Empire's objective has not been interrupted; it continues to this day. However, contrary to those who have long dreamed of the ultimate eradication of the Armenian nation, we responded to state crimes in a state manner.
“In 1918, we responded with Sardarapat. Armenian statehood is not just 30 years old; it has existed from 1918 to 2023. Four years after the genocide, in 1919, the revenge began. It was not terror, but a nationwide revenge, a decision made by the Armenian people to partially pay back the price of spilled blood. In 1919, a group of Armenian youths, who were ready and responsible to each other, undertook the realization of that decision. We commemorated our victims 50 years later,” Areyan noted in his speech.
