The Number of Cesarean Sections in Armenia Increases Year by Year, a Worrying Trend, Minister Says

The number of cesarean sections in Armenia is increasing year by year, which is a very unfortunate and negative trend. This was stated today by Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan in the National Assembly.

“Perhaps from the perspective of human rights, it is the woman who decides how to have a child, but it should be understood that this directly harms the woman's health and creates numerous problems later on,” said Avanesyan.

The Minister of Health also spoke about the importance of promoting breastfeeding and noted that currently, the state is not applying sufficient measures for this purpose. “Years ago, there was quite a good campaign aimed at this, but then the resources were exhausted, and it was halted,” she announced.

The Ministry of Health has also conducted studies and found that there are no legislative gaps regarding incentives and advertising, but their practical application is deficient. Anahit Avanesyan assured that the issue would be addressed.
