Surgeons in Kazakhstan Remove Worms from Child's Brain
Surgeons at a municipal children's hospital in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, have removed worms from a young boy's brain. This was reported by the local publication OTYRAR.
According to media reports, a ten-year-old boy sought medical help complaining of persistent headaches. Following an examination, doctors determined that the patient was suffering from echinococcosis of the brain. The boy was admitted to the hospital and underwent surgery.
The surgeons who operated on the child reported that they removed a 15 x 10 cm echinococcal cyst, as well as approximately 10 to 15 worms.
Brain echinococcosis is a rare parasitic disease. The parasites enter the human body due to non-compliance with hygiene rules, often through contact with animals or unclean hands. Fatal outcomes of the disease are known to occur with late diagnosis.
Earlier, it was reported that a resident of Vietnam had worms found in her brain due to eating contaminated delicacies.
