Law Enforcement Officers Assaulted Investigator, One of Them Also Dealt Drugs. Case in Court
Law enforcement officers from the Ararat regional administration assaulted an investigator, one of whom also dealt drugs. The prosecutor has sent the case to court.
This was reported by the Public Relations Department of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia, noting that police officers V.S. and S.K. from the Ararat regional administration, having conspired, assaulted investigator N.B. from the Ararat regional investigative department on October 3, 2022, inflicting minor injuries that caused a brief impairment of health.
During the investigation conducted by the National Security Service, it was also found that officer V.S. was involved in the illegal drug trade. With the assistance of his associate M.G., he handed over 0.52 grams of marijuana to G.P.
It was also revealed that officer V.S., who has been serving in the police system since 2009 and has been in a senior officer position at the Ararat regional administration since 2018, was aware of his associate M.G.’s ongoing thefts and did not take measures to prevent, disclose the crimes, and hold M.G. criminally accountable.
During the pre-trial investigation, the preventive measure of detention was chosen for the accused V.S. He was arrested and presented to court; however, the Anti-Corruption Court rejected the request for the application of detention as a preventive measure, against which the supervising prosecutor submitted a special review complaint.
On April 10, 2023, the Prosecutor General's Office received the criminal case, charging S.K. under the second part of Article 171 of the Criminal Code (causing light bodily harm by a group of individuals), and V.S. under the same article, as well as Article 266, first part (illegal drug trafficking), and Article 308, first part (abuse of official powers). M.G. was also charged under Article 38-266, first part (aiding illegal drug trafficking).
On the same day, the Prosecutor General's Office received the decision of the Criminal Appeals Court, satisfying the prosecutor's special review complaint and applying detention as a preventive measure against officer V.S. V.S. presented himself to a correctional facility and was detained.
On April 13, 2023, the criminal case was submitted to the Anti-Corruption Court with the indictment approved by the prosecutor.
