Armenian Human Rights Defender Visits Detained Azerbaijani Soldiers
The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, visited Azerbaijani soldiers detained in the Republic of Armenia on April 16. This was reported by the Human Rights Defender's office.
The Defender inspected the conditions of their detention and addressed issues related to the protection of their rights, including the right to health. During individual interviews, no complaints were presented regarding torture by state bodies or officials, nor about other forms of ill-treatment, including psychological pressure.
The Human Rights Defender noted that the mentioned individuals are provided with appropriate detention conditions, including continuous access to drinking water, food, and hygiene supplies. If necessary, they receive medical assistance and care. A medical specialist from the Defender's staff was involved in the visit and reviewed the medical documents of the individuals and the extent of the medical assistance provided.
The detainees informed that they are aware of the charges against them, have been provided with free legal representation, and an interpreter has been present throughout the proceedings. The Human Rights Defender clarified the mechanisms for protecting the rights of those deprived of liberty, the nature of the restrictions imposed by court order, the procedures and timelines for appealing these restrictions, and the processes for addressing the Human Rights Defender.
