US Admits It Should Have Withdrawn from Afghanistan Sooner

The United States acknowledges that it should have begun withdrawing its forces from Afghanistan sooner. This was reported by The New York Times.

It is noted that the US government today accepted that it should have started evacuating Americans and Afghans from Kabul earlier.

According to a 12-page white paper, government officials attempted to place much of the blame on Biden's predecessor, former President Donald Trump, accusing him of hastily reaching an agreement with the Taliban regarding the withdrawal of American forces before the spring of 2021.

However, officials also admitted the ineffectiveness of “aggressive communication” due to the speed with which the Taliban seized control of the country.

The document states that months before the withdrawal of troops, the Biden administration decided not to “loudly and publicly broadcast the possibility of the worst-case scenario developing, in order not to signal a lack of confidence in the Afghan government.” While the report does not explicitly label this as a mistake, it does indicate in two points that the government has changed its policy and will no longer make that choice.
