Zurabishvili on Georgia's Integration into NATO and the EU
During a press conference held with the President of Lithuania, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili stated that it is time for NATO to take concrete steps to return to the spirit of the Bucharest summit declaration, demonstrating progress in Georgia's integration into NATO at the July summit in Vilnius. This was reported by Aliq Media.
According to Zurabishvili, over the past 20 years, Georgia has shown many examples of being a worthy and reliable partner to the Alliance. She noted that no one should be allowed to discourage Georgia and the Georgian people.
“No one should give Russia false hopes that an isolated Georgia will become its new and easy target,” said the president.
Zurabishvili also highlighted that achieving candidate country status in the European Union is Georgia's non-negotiable goal. The president emphasized that Georgia and the Georgian people deserve to return to their historical place in the European family.
She stated that Georgia and its people have repeatedly proven their unwavering loyalty to European values. As the President of Georgia noted, the population of the country is united around the idea of integrating into the European Union.
“Since the restoration of independence, Georgia has gone through 32 years filled with difficulties. The Georgian people have overcome many challenges to defend their choice of freedom and European values. This struggle continues today. Time and again, the Georgian people have demonstrated their steadfast commitment to European values on various occasions and not just in recent years. Integration into the European Union is the choice of 80 percent of the Georgian population,” said Zurabishvili.
