We Will Not Allow Ourselves to Be Drawn into Any War: Erdoğan

Turkey has no intention of entering any war; this is part of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's election campaign. In an interview with A Haber television on Wednesday, he discussed his plans.

“First, we (the ruling Justice and Development Party) will not lead our country into war. Second, we will uphold the institution of family. Third, we will be more meticulous regarding immigration, mainly from Syria. We will not be feeding migrants. If we were not here, the Western club would draw Turkey into the war zone,” said the state leader, outlining the policies he and his party plan to implement if they win the upcoming elections.

Parliamentary elections will be held on May 14 alongside the presidential elections in Turkey. To win in the first round, the candidate must secure more than 50 percent of the votes. Otherwise, a second round will take place involving the two candidates who received the most support in the first round. The previous presidential elections were held on June 24, 2018, where Erdoğan won with 52.6% of the votes.

This time, the main competitors are expected to be Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the president of the Republican People's Party, and the sitting president of Turkey.
