Turkey's Parliament to Vote Tomorrow on Finland's NATO Membership Application
Turkey's Parliament will vote on Thursday regarding Finland's application to join NATO, Bloomberg reports. No further details have been provided.
This week, Hungary's Parliament ratified Finland's accession to NATO. Following this, Turkey remains the only member of the alliance whose Parliament has yet to approve the Finnish application.
NATO member countries signed the accession protocols for Finland and Sweden to join the North Atlantic Council on July 5, 2022. These countries will join NATO once all member states ratify the accession protocols.
Turkey has blocked the accession process, demanding that both northern countries recognize Kurdish organizations as terrorists and extradite individuals accused of terrorism, as well as lift the arms embargo against Ankara.
In early March, Ankara announced its readiness to ratify Finland's candidacy before the presidential elections set for May, although it has objections in the case of Sweden.
