Bayramov and Donfried Discuss Issues Regarding the South Caucasus Situation and Armenia-Azerbaijan Relations

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Karen Donfried, discussed several current issues regarding bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the situation in the South Caucasus region, and the peace process between Baku and Yerevan during a phone conversation. This was reported by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as mentioned by local media.

Donfried emphasized the importance of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for peace and development in the region. He expressed concern over the recent escalation of the situation in the region and called for all misunderstandings to be resolved through negotiations. Donfried also stated that the U.S. side is ready to support the peace process.

At the end of the conversation, Bayramov wished Donfried success in his future endeavors as he is set to leave his position soon.

In turn, Bayramov informed Donfried about the latest situation in the region, asserting that Armenia has adopted "unconstructive approaches" that hinder the negotiations for a peace agreement. According to him, "Azerbaijan is ready to start negotiations on the peace treaty at any moment."
