Today, if I’m not mistaken, there is a 2-3 year old child with an incarcerated mother in Abovyan prison, and another incarcerated woman is pregnant. This information was provided by Justice Minister Grigor Minasyan during an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly's Permanent Commission on Human Rights and Public Affairs.

According to him, these inmates have separate cells, and the conditions are normal, although not excellent. However, improvements are planned. “We have budgeted for a complete renovation of the cells. We have also allocated a room for mothers who have children under the age of 3 with them, ensuring that the bathing area is separate so they do not have to use a communal one. There is also a designated playroom for the children. Not many use it since it is far from the cells, but we recently made a decision to relocate the cells,” he noted.
