Citizens Assaulted Patrol Officers After Insulting Them, Fight Turned into Clash
On March 15, a brawl involving patrol officers and citizens took place in the Gegharkunik region. According to Shamshyan.com, around 10:00 PM, patrol officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were conducting service in the administrative area of the Artsvyanist community in the Martuni enlarged community.
While traveling on the village road, the officers noticed a 28-year-old resident of the military base, Narek A., who was standing in the middle of the road. As the officers passed by, Narek A. started hurling insults at them. The security journalists reported that the patrol officers parked their vehicle and approached Narek A., introducing themselves and asking why he was insulting them.
However, he continued to curse at them. The officers informed Narek A. that he could be taken to the police for his insults and urged him to stop. Nonetheless, this also bore no fruit. The officers attempted to place him under administrative arrest. At that moment, his father, 53-year-old Valentiy A., arrived, who not only obstructed the officers' legal actions but also began to curse and physically pull at the officers doing their duty.
Afterward, residents of Artsvyanist, 27-year-old Narek Y., 27-year-old Andranik A., and 25-year-old Karlen H. approached the scene and started to pull at the officers. Some of them struck the squad commander Grisha G. and senior patrol officer Samvel S.
Shortly thereafter, patrol officers from the Martuni division and the Gegharkunik regional contingent arrived in response to the alert and managed to take everyone to the Martuni division of the police.
In a conversation with Auroranews.am, the Police announced that such an incident had occurred, and a criminal case had been initiated. The Investigation Committee is handling the case.
