Police Officer Shoots at Man Approaching with an Axe; He Later Dies in Hospital
In Hrazdan, a police officer fired two warning shots, followed by one shot at a man approaching them with an axe, who later died in the hospital. This information was reported by shamshyan.com.
On March 13, during the process of neutralizing the alleged criminal, shots were fired in the Kotayk region. An 18-year-old resident of one of Hrazdan’s neighborhoods, Hasmik B., called to report that unknown individuals had entered their home. She stated that there was a man in the nearby barn, who presumably had entered to steal.
Police officers approached the barn and used a loudspeaker to announce their presence, demanding the man inside to come out. After warnings were issued, a man emerged from the barn with an axe in hand. He demanded that police officers keep their distance, ordering them to leave and threatening to kill everyone if they attempted to detain him.
After seeing that the police and patrol officers did not retreat and continued to demand that he drop the axe and surrender, the man again refused to comply. With the axe in hand, he began to make erratic movements and charge at the police officers.
At that moment, one of the patrol officers from the Kotayk battalion fired two warning shots into the air. However, these shots did not deter the man from his attack on the police and patrol officers. Realizing that the threat was imminent, the officer fired once at the man approaching them with the axe. The man fell to the ground.
The medical team from the Hrazdan hospital, which arrived at the scene following the call, transported the injured man to the Hrazdan Medical Center, diagnosing him with a "gunshot wound to the chest, bodily injury." According to reports, Samvel P. had a previous criminal record.
