We Will Continue to Work Towards the Unblocking of the Lachin Corridor: Luxembourg Delegation at the National Assembly

Luxembourg has been and remains an important partner for Armenia. We are determined to expand and deepen our relations with our European partners both bilaterally and within the framework of the EU. Our country values cooperation with Luxembourg also in the context of establishing democracy and protecting human rights, stated Sona Ghazaryan, the head of the Armenia-Luxembourg Friendship Group in the National Assembly, during a meeting on February 27 with a delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Juna Bernard.

Sona Ghazaryan noted that Luxembourg stands out in the EU for its clear and targeted messages. A vivid example of this is the firm statements made during the 44-day war and in the post-war period. “Luxembourg was specific in its statements against the war initiated by Azerbaijan, and in this context, we greatly appreciate its support,” emphasized the group leader.

She added that following the war, Azerbaijani armed forces have violated Armenia's territorial integrity three times and illegally invaded the country's sovereign territory. In such a fragile security environment, Sona Ghazaryan underscored the importance of the EU's civilian monitoring mission in Armenia.

The group leader also addressed the blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and its humanitarian consequences. In this regard, she highlighted the importance of exerting pressure on Azerbaijan by Luxembourg. The deputy emphasized that Azerbaijan is also failing to comply with the International Court of Justice's ruling regarding the Lachin Corridor.

“We will continue to work with international partners on the unblocking of the Lachin Corridor and on establishing peace in the region,” Sona Ghazaryan stated.

The group members also discussed the dire situation created by the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the protection of the rights of Armenians in Artsakh, the prompt return of Armenians held hostage in Azerbaijan, the normalization process of Armenia-Turkey relations, joint work of the government and opposition on the Armenian agenda, as well as several geopolitical and regional security issues.
