Soldier Dies from Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound to Head; Criminal Proceedings Launched
On February 19, 2023, following the death of a soldier, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case under Part 2, Point 3 of Article 522 of the Criminal Code. The information was provided by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
The Ministry of Defense reported that a conscript from military unit N of the Ministry of Defense, identified as H.P., born in 2004, was found with a gunshot wound to the head at around 12:45 PM in the combat position of the military unit’s security zone. He was admitted to the Ijevan Medical Center in a deceased state.
According to preliminary data, H.P. died as a result of an injury sustained from a self-inflicted shot from his assigned automatic rifle to the head.
An investigation is underway. The scene has been examined, and several soldiers have been interrogated. Within the framework of the criminal case, forensic medical examinations, complex ballistic studies, traceological analyses, and other tests have been appointed.
All necessary measures are being taken to clarify the circumstances of the soldier's death, including the investigation of any potential non-statutory relations among the soldiers prior to the incident.
