Mirzoyan Discusses Border Opening with Turkey, Sets Timelines

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during his visit to Turkey, discussed bilateral relations and the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border with local authorities. Mirzoyan announced this during a government session.

"There is a decision to accelerate the processes aimed at opening the borders through dialogue. We have declared that joint efforts will be made to restore the historic bridge in Ani. Before the start of the tourist season, we will work to facilitate crossing the border for citizens of third countries and those holding diplomatic passports from our two countries," said Mirzoyan.

He also emphasized that the main topic of his visit and discussions was the recent earthquake. The Minister added that words of appreciation for the work of Armenian rescuers and humanitarian aid have been expressed by both central authorities and local administrations, as well as by the population on the Turkish side.

It is noteworthy that the Armenian Foreign Minister traveled to Turkey on February 15, where he met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. He also visited the disaster zone in Adıyaman, where he met with the Armenian rescue team conducting search and rescue operations.

This is Mirzoyan's second visit to Turkey during his tenure. In March 2022, he participated in a diplomatic forum held in Antalya, where he negotiated with Çavuşoğlu.
