Arrests Made in Turkey Following Building Collapses, Vice President Says

More than 24,000 lives have been lost due to the earthquake that struck southeastern Turkey, announced Vice President Fuat Oktay. "A total of 24,617 people have died as a result of the earthquake," Oktay said during a press briefing.

According to him, permission has been granted for the arrest of 113 individuals. There are suspicions that their actions may have influenced the collapses of buildings that were allegedly constructed in compliance with regulations; one person has already been arrested.

Recall that on February 6 at 5:17 AM, an earthquake occurred in Turkey, leading to devastation in several cities. Further strong quakes were recorded at 14:24 and 14:36 Yerevan time. These earthquakes also resulted in destruction in several regions of Syria. According to the latest data from the Syrian Ministry of Health, the death toll has exceeded 3,000, with over 5,000 injured.
