VIDEO: Three Illegal Mines Discovered Thanks to MP's Efforts

On February 10, the parliament is discussing the package of proposals regarding amendments to the laws on ‘Subsurface Resources’ and ‘Administrative Offenses’ for first reading approval. 

MP Armen Khachatryan, representing the ruling party, stated in his speech that about 70 percent of sand exports in Armenia are illegal and occur in the black market. 

“A few days ago, I promised that I would send the materials to the prosecutor's office, but our MP Haik Sargsyan has already dealt with those materials. When he pointed out a specific area where illegal mining had been discovered, the inspection body found three illegal mines before they even got there. My question is this: how is it possible for hectares to be taken over, excavated, and turned into mines without anyone knowing about it? Yet, thanks to our MP's light efforts, three mines have been discovered in just a few hours,” Khachatryan noted.
