Video: Military Unit Chief Photographed and Sent Indian Military Equipment to Foreign Services
The National Security Service of Armenia has reported that, following extensive operational and intelligence measures carried out by the military counterintelligence department, it was determined that an Armenian citizen, a captain in the Ministry of Defense’s military unit, has been under the attention of foreign intelligence services since early 2021 and was recruited by them.
Subsequently, after being reassigned to another military unit of the Ministry of Defense as the head of one of the services, he received proposals via messages from foreign intelligence services to continue cooperation and accepted it. He committed to gather and hand over state and service secrets pertaining to the military sector of the Republic of Armenia for use against its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security in exchange for remuneration.
Realizing his criminal activities, during April-May 2021, he gathered military sector information constituting state and service secrets and handed it over to a representative of a foreign intelligence service through various mobile applications he used. This included information about the armaments, types of weaponry, quantities, the location of combat positions under the protection of his unit, as well as photographic evidence displaying the armaments and quantities, including military equipment acquired from India.
In exchange for this information, he received money on two different occasions and a mobile phone from the foreign intelligence service representative, thereby committing state treason against the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.
Searches have been conducted within the framework of the criminal prosecution initiated by the investigative department of the NSS of Armenia, charges have been presented against the aforementioned officer, and he has been remanded in custody by the court's decision. The pre-investigation proceedings in the criminal case are ongoing.
