VIDEO. 'I Remember You as a Young Activist': Tensions Erupt Between Konyuryan and Mamijanyan

The leader of the 'Civil Contract' faction in the National Assembly, Hayk Konyuryan, addressed remarks made by the leader of the 'Honorary' faction, Hayk Mamijanyan, during his speech. Konyuryan stated, “Mr. Mamijanyan, I remember you since 2011 when you were a young activist in the Youth Parliament,” to which Mamijanyan responded from his seat, “Moderate your words.”

Konyuryan continued, “What's wrong with calling someone an activist? Don't get worked up. Activist is a perfectly normal word in Armenian, it means an active person, Mr. Mamijanyan, don’t get worked up. You know, speaking is not easy; you also need to be able to listen. When you’re gesticulating with theatrical artistry, you should be able to listen afterwards. I was listening to you calmly, without any nervous antics. When you come here to talk about me, be ready to hear about yourself too. The second thing I remember about you is that you are the champion in this region of becoming ‘Armen Ashotyan’. A person who has always left an impression on me is one whose life goal is to become ‘Armen Ashotyan’. What comes after that, I cannot say,” Konyuryan said.

The session chair, Ruben Rubinyan, noted, “We all saw that things don’t go well when deputies start to criticize each other personally. I suggest we all refrain from that. Let’s agree, because it seems that no one is holy here, except for me, of course.”
