Malatia Market Remains Closed: Director Explains Ongoing Works
Work at the Malatia market has not resumed. Planned works were not completed yesterday, resulting in the market remaining closed today. This was stated by the market's director, Samvel Avetisyan, in an interview with Factinfo.
According to him, the specialists involved in the works and the market staff have been working for two consecutive days, and went home at midnight yesterday to rest, so they could continue the rectification works today.
“We haven’t completed the work yet. I believe we will finish it today; right now we are changing the electrical wires, installing a signaling system. The entire dust had filled the signal systems, we need to test everything before we can proceed. The people are agreeable. We might not work for a couple of days, but we will ensure it is safe. If we finish it up, we will be able to work,” he stated.
Avetisyan added that the market administration filed a complaint with the administrative court on January 27 to challenge the decision of the supervisory authority. The court has accepted the claim and the first hearing is scheduled for April 11.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Urban Development, Fire Safety, and Technical Safety decided to suspend the operations of the Malatia market starting from February 1, as the operator had failed to rectify several of the 17 violations noted.
On February 1, market employees held a protest in front of the already closed market.
