Death Toll from Earthquake in Turkey Exceeds 12,000: Anadolu
The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 12,000, with approximately 63,000 injured, Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.
“In total, 12,391 people have died, and 62,914 have been injured,” the agency cited data from Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.
On the previous day, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had reported 8,574 deaths and 49,133 injuries. According to him, 6,444 buildings have been destroyed.
CNN reports that the earthquake in Syria has resulted in 2,992 deaths.
On Monday night, Turkey experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7, followed by several aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 7.6. The quake caused significant damage and casualties in Turkey and neighboring Syria.
