The Total Number of Victims May Exceed 20,000: New Details Published
Rescue operations continue in southern Turkey and northern Syria following the three powerful earthquakes that occurred on February 6-7, which have claimed more than 7,700 lives. Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay has reported that the death toll in Turkey has reached 5,894, with 34,810 people injured.
More than 70 countries have sent rescue teams and other assistance. Reports indicate that approximately 6,000 buildings, including apartment complexes, have collapsed due to the earthquakes. According to CNN, at least 1,832 people have died in neighboring Syria, with 3,894 injured. Rescue workers from the “White Helmets” organization operating in Syria say these figures are far from final.
In total, the World Health Organization estimates that about 23 million people live in the affected areas. The organization has warned that the overall number of victims may exceed 20,000.
