The Death Toll in Turkey Rises to 912, with 5,385 Injured: Erdogan

The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 900, with more than 5,000 injured, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during a speech from the emergency response coordination center. According to РИА Новости, Erdogan stated, “As of now, 912 people have died, and 5,385 have been injured. A total of 2,470 have been rescued.”

He added that the number of collapsed buildings stands at 2,818. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, is the strongest since 1939.

It is reported that the earthquake struck in the Kahramanmaraş province of Turkey at 5:17 AM, causing devastation in several cities. Turkish authorities had earlier reported 284 deaths and 2,383 injuries. Additionally, several regions in Syria also experienced destruction, claiming the lives of over 300 people, with 639 injured. The earthquake was felt in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as well.

As a result of the earthquake, two Armenians, a mother and son, lost their lives in Aleppo, Syria, while another two Armenian spouses were killed in Malatya, Turkey.
