Police Risk Their Lives to Arrest and Neutralize Opel Driver Armed with a Military Grenade

On January 30, a dramatic incident reminiscent of an action movie occurred in Yerevan. At around 11:30 PM, while on duty, police officers noticed that an Opel vehicle was deliberately violating traffic rules, as reported by Shamshyan.com.

The officers urged the driver to stop using loudspeakers. However, the driver ignored the police’s request and attempted to flee, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, the officers requested assistance from their colleagues via internal communication.

Eventually, at the intersection of Kilikia and Werfel streets, they managed to corner the Opel and bring it to a halt. Approaching the vehicle, the officers demanded the driver's license and vehicle registration documents, but the driver refused to provide the necessary papers and was seen reaching towards his waistband and then into his pocket.

At that moment, the police managed to neutralize him, discovering that he was armed with a military RG-type grenade with its fuse. It turned out that the individual was 39-year-old Atom S. from the Kotayk region, who appeared to be intoxicated and did not possess a valid driver's license. A legal case has been initiated regarding the incident.
