VIDEO: Death Toll in Pakistan Mosque Blast Exceeds 50, Over 150 Injured
The death toll from the explosion at a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan has risen to 59, with 157 injured, according to РИА Новости.
As reported by the NEXTA Telegram channel, most of the casualties are police officers. The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier reports indicated that more than 19 people had died and 70 were injured in the blast near the Afghanistan border, as stated by Geo-Ti-V television.
An emergency has been declared in the city’s hospitals, with over 70 injured individuals transferred to Lady Reading Medical Institution, including 25 police officers among the victims.
The explosion is believed to have been carried out by a suicide bomber. According to media reports, the mosque is located near a local police station, and security personnel indicated that the assailant was in the front rows during the attack, which occurred during prayers when the bomb was detonated.
