Germany Will Only Be Able to Replace Russian Gas with Liquefied Gas by 2026

The German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection states that Germany will only be able to replace gas supplied via pipeline from the Russian Federation with liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 2026. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing a document from the Ministry of Economics.

“The truth is that in the next three to four years, global LNG production capacity will not be sufficient to meet the growing demand,” said Christian Ley, a member of the Left Party, to the agency.

According to the agency, Germany will need time until 2026 to create conditions for the supply of 56 billion cubic meters of gas that Germany received from Russia in 2021, Bloomberg emphasizes. By 2030, Germany plans to increase its fuel imports to 76.5 billion cubic meters.

It is worth noting that Germany is living through the winter of 2022-2023 with liquefied gas supplies from Norway and the Netherlands, as well as due to its own coal reserves, after it abandoned Russian energy resources. Bloomberg reported this yesterday.

As announced earlier by Germany's Finance Minister Christian Lindner, Germany is no longer dependent on energy supplies from Russia. According to the head of Germany's finance ministry, the country has succeeded in finding alternative energy sources.
