Soldiers Were Temporarily Stationed in the Barracks, Armenian Ministry of Defense

Soldiers were temporarily stationed in the engineering soldiers' barracks in one of the military units in Gegharkunik province, where a fire broke out yesterday. This information was provided by Aram Torosyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Defense.

“Months ago, the Ministry of Defense acquired modular barracks manufactured in Italy, with the first batch already in Armenia. Currently, work is being carried out on the improvement of the area and the provision of engineering networks, after which they will be installed. The soldiers were stationed there until the completion of the construction of a permanent deployment site,” noted the spokesperson.

It should be mentioned that the Investigative Committee reported yesterday that the engineering soldiers' company of the Armenian Ministry of Defense's N military unit has been stationed in one of the houses in the village of Azat since May 13, 2021.

As a reminder, on January 19, around 01:30, a fire broke out in the barracks of the engineering soldiers' company located in the territory of the N military unit in Azat village, Gegharkunik province. As a result of the fire, 15 individuals lost their lives, and 7 soldiers were injured, four of whom were discharged after receiving medical assistance, while 3 were transferred to Yerevan's National Burn Center. Two of them are in critical condition.

Immediately after the incident, the commander of the 2nd army corps and other high-ranking military personnel were dismissed from their positions.
