Turkey Accuses U.S. and Russia of Failing to Fulfill Agreements

Russia and the United States have not fulfilled their commitments to withdraw Kurdish forces from northern Syria. This was announced on January 13 by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu during a joint press conference in Ankara with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

The Turkish diplomat's statements were cited by TASS. Çavuşoğlu said, “During my visit to the U.S., we will speak about Syria. Because they (the U.S.) continue to support the Kurdistan Workers' Party and the People's Protection Units. This is a threat to us. The promises made to us have not been fulfilled by either the U.S. or Russia.”

According to the diplomat, Ankara continually reminds Moscow and Washington that the conditions of the 2019 agreements have not been met.
