Aliyev Accuses Armenia of Derailing Peace Negotiations

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has accused Armenia of disrupting the negotiation process regarding Nagorno-Karabakh. This statement was made on Tuesday, according to Azerbaijani media sources.

Aliyev emphasized that “the authorities of Armenia must take full responsibility and be ready to sign a peace agreement, which should not turn into a 'multi-layered' document but rather be a 'clear text' reflecting the fundamental principles of the agreements.”

“Armenia needs to make a decision and, in essence, record what they accepted in Prague, and then in Sochi last October. The reference to territorial integrity and the Alma-Ata Declaration states very clearly that they (the Armenians) recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. This is our success because Armenia officially recognized Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty for the first time,” Aliyev added.

He also insisted that by acknowledging the situation, Armenia was failing to address the issues. “They are trying in every way to incorporate the issue of Karabakh into the peace agreement and, in fact, blocking the negotiations. The fact that they ignored the meeting of foreign ministers in Moscow due to certain events is absolutely unacceptable,” Aliyev stated, recalling that after the attack on Armenia in September, Nikol Pashinyan had nevertheless traveled to Prague.
