US Congress Members Condemn Azerbaijan for Blocking the Lachin Corridor
As Azerbaijan continues to block the only road connecting Armenia and Artsakh, members of the US Congress are raising their voices about this issue. This is stated in a press release from the Armenian Assembly of America.
Vice Chair of the Armenian Caucus, Adam Schiff, has called on the Biden administration to take action to unblock the road and provide humanitarian aid to Artsakh. Congressman Schiff emphasized that Azerbaijan is deliberately obstructing Artsakh's only connection to food, medical supplies, and heating during the winter, referring to the humanitarian crisis as part of "Aliyev's ongoing terrorism against Armenia."
Senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, criticized Aliyev's "winter weapon" against the people of Artsakh in his statement. According to Menendez, democratic countries around the world must immediately condemn Aliyev for gas shut-offs and the blockade. He also addressed Turkey, noting that it has supported Azerbaijan in arms procurement. The official stated that the US must hold Erdogan accountable for his behavior.
Congresswoman Anna Eshoo strongly condemned Azerbaijan's "brutal blockade" of Artsakh, while Congressman Clark said that the US "must help secure peace and hold Azerbaijan accountable." In his statement, Congressman Sherman stated that the international community must unequivocally condemn this outrageous provocation and take every possible and necessary step to support the Armenian people in this critical situation.
