Iran's Parliament to Discuss Hijab Wearing Issue
The Iranian parliament is set to form a Council for Public Culture, tasked with addressing the mandatory wearing of hijabs, announced Gholamreza Montazeri, representative of the parliament's cultural committee. According to RIA Novosti, Montazeri stated, 'A working group has been established within the cultural commission of the Iranian parliament that will specifically deal with issues related to modesty in appearance and hijabs. The Public Culture Council, created to discuss cultural matters, is developing a comprehensive framework concerning modesty in appearance. We are ready to assist in the parliament if there are unclear or unconstructive points in the legislation.'
The issue of wearing hijabs and other types of headscarves, which must cover the heads of all Iranian women, is connected to the recent unrest in the country.
