Scandal in Qatar: Ecuadorian Players Allegedly Paid Large Sums to Lose Opening Match
A British journalist and political analyst from the Middle East Research Center, Amjad Tahan, has claimed that Qatar bribed several Ecuadorian players to ensure their defeat in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup. According to championat.com, Tahan stated: "Qatar bribed eight Ecuadorian footballers with €7.1 million to lose the match (0:1). Five insiders from Qatar and Ecuador have confirmed this information. We hope this is false. We expect that the dissemination of this information will impact the outcome. The world must respond to FIFA's corruption," he wrote on his social media.
