Gazprom Starts Supplying Natural Gas to Azerbaijan
Gazprom will supply Azerbaijan with up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas by March 2023 under the terms of a new contract, according to a statement from the Russian holding. Spunik Georgia reports: "Russian gas supplies to Azerbaijan have begun under a new gas purchase and sale contract. The document was signed between Gazprom Export LLC and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR)."
The contract stipulates the delivery of up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas by March 2023, the Russian holding reports.
It is noteworthy that Gazprom supplied gas to Azerbaijan from 2000 to 2006, but later the country began to increase gas production from the Shah Deniz field for export to Georgia and Turkey. Supplies were resumed in 2017-2018. Since 2019, following the launch of the second phase of Shah Deniz, Azerbaijan has once again refused to purchase gas from Russia.
