Russia and the US Embassies Issue Warnings Regarding Travel to Certain Regions of Armenia
Information has spread across Telegram channels indicating that the Russian and US embassies have published warnings on their websites regarding travel to certain regions of Armenia. Specifically, the Russian embassy advises Russian tourists against visiting the Syunik, Vayots Dzor, and Gegharkunik provinces, which are near the border. However, this information is dated September 14, even though it still appears on the embassy's main page.
In a statement from the US embassy, made on November 15, embassy staff and their families are advised against visiting five provinces of Armenia and certain areas of Nagorno-Karabakh unless absolutely necessary. This is explained by the military operations that took place along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border from September 13 to 15, including reports of shelling in Armenia.
The areas particularly noted as dangerous include: the Tavush province along the M4 highway from Ijevan to the north and east; in Gegharkunik province, east of Lake Sevan; in Gegharkunik province, south of Lake Sevan and east of the M10 highway; the city of Yeraskh in Ararat province; in Vayots Dzor province, east of Yeghegnadzor; and in Syunik province. Travel to Nagorno-Karabakh remains prohibited.
