Warnings Issued About Terror Threats at Moscow Airports
Starting from November 10, maximum threat levels for terrorist attacks have been established for the first time at Moscow's Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo airports. On Wednesday, November 16, Izvestia reported, citing a letter from the Federal Transport Oversight Service (Rostransnadzor) addressed to aviation hubs and carriers.
"As of 00:00 on November 10, 2022, a threat level corresponding to the third security level has been established due to a direct threat of illegal interference in the operation of the transport complex, which has a terrorist nature," the document signed by Irakli Meladze, Acting Head of the Central Federal District State Aviation Control and Transportation Security Oversight Office, states.
Rostransnadzor notified airlines about the necessity to implement additional security measures in accordance with the new threat level. A source from one of the major airlines confirmed receipt of such a letter. Both Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo airport representatives stated that they maintain the necessary level of protection. Vnukovo has not responded to requests for comment.
Additionally, the third level of security has also been introduced at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport, according to a source from a major Russian airline. The airport's representatives declined to comment on this information but noted that Pulkovo fully upholds all transport and aviation security measures.
