Armenian Drivers Should Be Cautious: What Changes Are Happening in Georgia

The Parliament of Georgia is discussing amendments related to penalties for traffic violations committed by vehicles with foreign license plates. This information was reported by Sputnik Georgia.

In Georgia, traffic violations are noted not only by police officers but also by 'smart' cameras. The key difference is that police officers issue fines on the spot, while violations recorded by cameras are published on the Ministry of Internal Affairs' website, and vehicle owners receive SMS alerts and notifications at their registered address.

However, there was a challenge concerning the issuance of notices to foreign drivers without registration in Georgia. According to the amendments, it will be considered that the violator has been informed 30 days after the violation is posted on the Ministry's website. If the fine is not paid within 30 days, a penalty will be added to the fine.

"This legislative regulation aims to collect fines for recorded violations from drivers of vehicles with foreign license plates," explained Alexander Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

Moreover, vehicle owners with foreign license plates who do not pay the fines will not be able to enter Georgia next time. The website notes that 'smart' cameras have recorded 1,441,576 violations in six months, with a total amount of 66.2 million lari.
