New uproar among prisoners: "Hayastani Jhoghovurd"

The newspaper "Hayastani Jhoghovurd" reports that a new uproar is brewing among prisoners serving sentences in various penitentiaries in Armenia. The issue pertains to the new criminal procedure code.

Following the changes made, the new code requires certain adjustments in the verdicts of individuals previously sentenced to imprisonment, which in many cases implies sentence reductions. For instance, a number of individuals sentenced to imprisonment for robbery and other offenses have approached the courts after the amendments, as it has become clear that these changes should result in a reduction of their sentences or some form of leniency. However, this has not been implemented.

According to information received by "Hayastani Jhoghovurd," nearly 200 prisoners have applied to the court in the Armavir region seeking to benefit from the legal changes or, as they describe, the reforms. However, the court has rejected the applications from all 200 individuals.

The prisoners are sounding the alarm, stating that changes are being made under the guise of reform, but the process is a myth, and they are not planning to remain silent. The alarm has been raised to "Hayastani Jhoghovurd" by dissatisfied individuals from the Armavir court, but the issue affects all prisoners.
