Statement from the Foreign Ministry of Artsakh Regarding the Resolution Passed by the French Senate
The Foreign Ministry of Artsakh welcomes the resolution passed by the French Senate, which condemns Azerbaijan's aggressive and anti-Armenian policies towards Armenia and Artsakh.
"The document reaffirms the necessity to recognize the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh and to utilize that recognition as a negotiating tool in order to establish lasting peace. The resolution emphasizes that Azerbaijan's repeated aggressive actions against Nagorno Karabakh pose a threat to the security and freedom of the Armenian population in Artsakh. The Senate urges the French government to do everything possible to ensure that Azerbaijan immediately joins the negotiation process to achieve sustainable peace in the South Caucasus," stated the Artsakh Foreign Ministry, highlighting that the adoption of such a resolution is a significant step from political, legal, and moral perspectives as Azerbaijan's expansionist and militaristic policies represent a serious challenge and threat not only to the Armenian people and Armenian statehood but also to regional stability and the civilized world as a whole.
“We express our gratitude to our French friends for adopting an unequivocal and principled position,” the statement particularly noted.
The French Senate today adopted the resolution with a vote of 295 in favor and 1 against, calling on the government to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan.
