My Speech Yesterday Served Its Purpose: Pashinyan
My speech yesterday served its purpose. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a live interview on Public Television.
“We are talking about the agreements that are recorded in writing because even if there can be verbal discussions, they must be expressed in one way or another in the texts that are published as a result of high-level discussions. Therefore, my speech yesterday was dedicated to that, trying to inventory what agreements exist. My speech yesterday served its purpose in that today the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement accusing us of sabotaging the establishment of a connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. This is important in that although the President of Azerbaijan constantly talks about a corridor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs no longer uses the word corridor,” said Pashinyan.
He emphasized that both the Armenian and Azerbaijani governments, as well as the international community, need to be accurately informed about what the agreements are and who is actually failing to implement them. “The purpose of this is not to create a verbal quarrel or new escalation; the purpose is to inventory the agreements and to implement them,” Pashinyan added.
Regarding the opening of communication routes, the Prime Minister stated that there is no obstacle to establishing a connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, the only obstacle being the position of the Azerbaijani authorities. “We say, let’s open all routes, there is no formulation in the trilateral statement that states that these routes should not operate according to Armenian legislation. Of course, they should operate under Armenian law if they are in our territory,” Pashinyan noted.
