Quiet Demilitarization Process Underway in Artsakh: MP

The military hospital in the Martuni region of Artsakh was recently closed, and no explanation has been provided to the staff regarding this decision. This was mentioned by Metakse Hakhobyan, a member of the Artsakh National Assembly from the 'Justice' faction, in an interview with NEWS.am.

“For quite a while now, a quiet but significant reduction has started, first among the army's officer personnel and then among lower ranks; now they've moved on to medical institutions. The hospital in Stepanakert is also in the same situation. Reductions are happening at the Stepanakert hospital, and it is already noticeable that such processes are taking place; the number of patients has been reduced. Certain actions are being taken that clearly indicate a move towards demilitarization. In this regard, we already have certain plans that we will announce when the time comes,” she said.

The MP added that the Martuni military hospital has been relocated to an area that is kilometers away. “Either this is being done deliberately, or they are foolish, because how will they be able to provide soldiers with rapid medical assistance during military operations? They forget that we are constantly in a wartime situation, and the threat is always hanging over us. I can assume that this is happening under strong pressure, as Pashinyan says, due to the international community’s pressure,” emphasized the opposition MP.

It is noteworthy that during the last government meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he presented to the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan in Sochi the proposal from the authorities of Artsakh that if a demilitarized zone is established around Artsakh, with international guarantees, then Artsakh might not need a Defense Army of such scale.
