Mehriban Aliyeva No Longer UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador

Mehriban Aliyeva, the wife of the President of Azerbaijan, has been stripped of her title as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. This was announced by Tigran Balayan, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, on his Twitter microblog.

“A wonderful piece of news to start the day. The wife of the President of Azerbaijan, who is also the First Vice President, is no longer a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. After decades of working against the values and principles of this organization, and refusing access to areas under her control to the mission of UNESCO, justice has been restored,” wrote the ambassador.
