Authorities Take the Peace Treaty Seriously, Simonian on Pashinyan's Statement

The Armenian authorities take the negotiations regarding the peace treaty seriously and express their views to all parties involved. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a briefing with journalists.

He commented on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that a war could begin 12 hours after the peace treaty if there are no international guarantees.

“The authorities take this matter seriously and convey their views on the peace treaty to all parties that act as intermediaries for signing this peace treaty. This is why Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that there should be specific guarantees because it is not enough to just sign a piece of paper. We hope that this treaty will have serious guarantees because merely signing a treaty is not sufficient,” Simonian stated.

According to him, this logic should guide the path forward to establish stable peace in the region.

“As you can see, contrary to opposition statements, two years later, Armenia is negotiating quite well, and one can list at length the victories of our diplomacy on the international stage. Such involvement from the USA, France, and Russia has not even existed during the format of the OSCE Minsk Group. Isn’t this a victory? In my opinion, diplomatically, this is a significant victory,” Simonian said.
