We Are Facing Serious National Security Issues: Tatoyan

We are facing serious national security issues precisely because Azerbaijani armed forces are directly targeting the Jermuk Hydro Power Plant, the Tatev Hydro Power Plant, the Geghanush tailings pond in Kapan, the Syunik airport, and other strategically significant facilities. This was stated by Arman Tatoyan, director of the Tatoyan Foundation and former Human Rights Defender, on his Facebook page where he also shared photographs.

“Just look at these photo evidence to understand the situation Armenia is in due to Azerbaijani criminal acts, armed invasions, and illegal relocations. The degree of danger is such that, for instance, heavy metals are accumulating in the Geghanush tailings pond from the Kapan enrichment plant. These materials pose a significant threat to the environment and human health,” he emphasized.

The facts show that Azerbaijan has no intention of removing its armed deployments from the occupied territories of the RA or near our villages and roads; they are only fortifying their illegal positions. I reiterate that our primary goal is to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Without that, real peace is impossible under the current conditions.

The existing situation is not a coincidence; it is a calculated criminal policy of Azerbaijani state enmity that lacks a goal of peace. Yes, the idea I proposed for a demilitarized security zone immediately after the war, in December 2020, is entirely realistic,” he wrote.
