Iran's Ambassador Summoned to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Iranian ambassador, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, was summoned today to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by haqqin.az.

During the meeting, dissatisfaction and concern were expressed regarding Iran's anti-Azerbaijani propaganda, the defamatory campaign by senior Iranian political and military figures, and the threatening rhetoric that do not align with the spirit of relations between the two countries.

It was also stated that the acceptance of individuals inciting separatism and avoiding prosecution in other countries at Iranian embassies in Azerbaijan is an unfriendly act.

It should be noted that Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also summoned the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran to deliver a note of protest regarding the propaganda campaign carried out by officials and media of that country against Iran.

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong protest against the "unfriendly remarks" made by Azerbaijani high-ranking officials and the anti-Iranian campaign of the country's media, calling for an immediate halt to such actions and for effective measures to prevent a recurrence of such trends.

The Azerbaijani ambassador expressed regret over the situation and promised to convey Iran's protest to the authorities in Baku without delay.

It is worth recalling that during a briefing, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Ned Price discussed Iran-Azerbaijan relations in the context of recent declarations from Tehran that a perpetrator of a terrorist act in Iran is an Azerbaijani citizen.

A reporter inquired whether the United States would be able to stand up and defend neighboring countries if Iran continues its rhetoric against them.

“There is increasing rhetoric from Iran towards neighboring countries like Azerbaijan. They have been threatening recently. They have also made a statement accusing Azerbaijan of committing terrorism on Iranian soil. Can the United States stand up and protect those neighboring countries if Iran continues its rhetoric against them?” the reporter questioned.

“We’ve made it very clear that Iran is a threat to the region. We will continue to stand by our partners, support them, and ultimately counter the destabilizing influence that Iran presents both in its own region and potentially beyond,” Price stated.
