In the Event of a Threat from Iran, the US Will Support Azerbaijan - Price
The United States will continue to support its partners in the region against the threat posed by Iran. This was stated by Ned Price, the official spokesman for the US State Department, during a press briefing.
Specifically, Price was asked about the increasing rhetoric from Iran threatening neighboring countries, accusing them of conducting terrorism within Iranian territory, and whether the US would be able to protect Azerbaijan. In response, Price recalled that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently met with the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov.
“We have made it clear that Iran is a threat to the region. We will continue to stand by our partners, support them, and ultimately confront the destabilizing influence that Iran poses both within the region and beyond,” Price stated.
When asked why the US has not imposed sanctions against Iran’s Supreme Leader, Price mentioned that the US is looking for necessary methods to exert pressure on the Iranian regime. He reminded that Iran is already under severe sanctions for its “nefarious actions” ranging from its nuclear program and ballistic missiles to its support for terrorism and proxy forces,” Price added.
