Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Responds to Nikol Pashinyan

“We emphasize that, in accordance with the obligations undertaken by the trilateral statement, Azerbaijan guarantees the safety of citizens, vehicles, and cargo movement in both directions along the Lachin road; the use of the road for military purposes is unacceptable,” stated the head of the press service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykan Hajizade, in response to statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a government meeting the day before.

The Azerbaijani official accused Armenia of violating the provisions of the trilateral statement and using the Lachin road for other purposes. Furthermore, he claimed that Armenia has not completely withdrawn its troops from Nagorno-Karabakh and is also sending mines produced in Armenia in 2021 to the region.

Recall that yesterday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the latest statements made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Shushi during the government meeting. Nikol Pashinyan stated that in his speech, the Azerbaijani leadership grossly violated the written agreement recorded in the trilateral statement adopted in Sochi regarding refraining from the use of force and the threat of force. According to him, despite the agreements signed in Prague and Sochi, Aliyev is publicly expressing aspirations towards the sovereign territory of Armenia, clearly aiming to intimidate the peaceful population by threatening several settlements and other names in Armenia.
